Lord, grant me the strength to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.” – Serenity Prayer

Small decisions and choices can make all the difference to your life. Far too often, most of us feel fatigued and overwhelmed by our responsibilities. Stress takes a great toll on our health. Try to recollect how often you have been down with the flu or a cold, or have felt too tired to do anything. Stress is a part and parcel of our busy work and life schedules. Instead of looking for ways to avoid stress you may want to look closely at your life to find more effective ways of dealing with it.

You need to clear your life of what you think clutters it. If you feel that you take on more than you can do, then practice saying no. It is vital for you to find what it is that makes you happy and find ways to incorporate it in your daily schedule. Here are some crucial issues that will help you deal with stress more effectively and avoid it to a large extent.

Breathe Well

Breathing is the most basic of bodily processes and essential to life. With bad posture and habits, most of us breathe ineffectively. This means that less oxygen reaches the lungs and we feel fatigued and lethargic. It is important for you to spend a few minutes every day breathing deeply. You could try joining a yoga class to develop a good style of breathing. Researchers find that when people are under stress they tend to adopt postures (shoulders drooping) not conducive to good breathing. Next time you are faced with a challenging situation take a ‘time out’ and walk about, focus on your breathing and you will soon feel refreshed and energized to deal with the situation at hand.

Health in your hands

A few changes in your eating habits and lifestyle can go a long way in reducing the stress in your life. Set the alarm for fifteen minutes earlier than your usual wake up time. This will ensure that you are not hard pressed for time at the start of your day. Eat a healthy breakfast which includes cereal and foods with low glycemic value. The food will be converted into sugar slowly and will energize you for a longer period of time.

Eat four to five servings of fruits and vegetables every day. They will provide your body adequate vitamins and minerals to keep the systems of your body working optimally. It is important to drink enough water to keep your body hydrated and to avoid toxin accumulation. Drink at least six to eight glasses of water every day and bring down the cups of coffee, tea and cola that you drink.

Take care

Take care of your body and you will feel a lot better. Choose clothing and make up that suits your body shape and coloring and makes you feel more confident.
