When you are shopping for perfume it is important to understand the different types of fragrances available according to their intensity and strength. The ‘parfum’ offers the strongest fragrance and can last for hours. And for the same reason, it is also the most expensive. The ‘eau de parfum’ comes next in strength, followed by the ‘eau de toilette’ and finally the ‘eau de cologne’, which is low in concentration and is usually the least expensive. Now that you know the types of fragrances you can choose from, you can shop according to your budget and how long you want the perfume to last.
Shopping for perfumeWhen you go shopping for perfume, do remember not to apply any perfume of your own. This will allow your nose to judge efficiently. Choose fragrances that appeal to you. You may like a musky fragrance while your friend may opt for a flowery one; remember that your choice of perfume is a personal one. Apply a bit of the perfume to your wrist and smell it only after a few minutes. If you are having trouble deciding on a fragrance, smell some of the coffee beans that most perfume counters at stores offer. This will help you clear your olfactory system.
It may also be a good idea to let the perfume stay on your skin for a while and finish off any other shopping that you may have. Now go back and smell your wrists again and make a choice. The same perfume may smell differently on you than it would on your friend. This is because the perfume interacts with your skin differently that it would on hers.
Bigger bottles of perfume are, but of course, expensive. So you have two alternatives, either you can buy miniature bottles of several perfumes, so you have a range of fragrances to choose from. Or you can opt for a cheaper ‘eau de toilette’ or an ‘eau de cologne’, which would also smell great, but will not last for as long as a perfume would.
How to wear perfume
When applying perfume focus on your pulse points; the wrists, the throat, behind the ears, on your cleavage and behind your knees. Apply the fragrance lightly so that you don’t end up wearing too much. Remember, after about five minutes of applying the fragrance your nose gets used to it, this doesn’t mean that you need to apply more. Usually a fragrance will last for about four hours and so, you may need to reapply your perfume before the end of the day. Do not mix fragrances unless you are going to shower before you apply a new one. Mixed fragrances never work well.
