Hair removal in the winter

Some women may prefer to use hair removal creams over shaving as it does away with the need to shave often. However, there are those who prefer the latter option. Whatever you choose, your skin need special care in the winters, both, before and after you have removed body hair.

In case you use depilatories or creams that break down the bonds of the hair and remove them from the surface of the skin painlessly, you will need to opt for a rich moisturizer too. This is because the harsh chemicals that help remove the body hair also dry out your skin of its natural oils. Keeping your skin well moisturized is a two step job. It includes the use of moisturizers that keep the skin hydrated and smooth and effort to ensure that the moisture is locked into the skin.

Hot water is not good for your skin as it dries up the natural oils produced by the body. Such oils offer natural moisturizing to your skin keeping it soft and supple. Whether you choose a razor or a depilatory it is best to use lukewarm water to wash away the hair.  You may like to opt for a body wash over a bar of soap that leaves your skin feeling dry. Pat your body dry and then apply a lotion or oil that suits your skin. As the water dries up it seals in the moisture and nourishment.

If you are waxing your body, you will need to ensure that the wax remains warm enough to ensure proper hair removal. If the wax is cold it won’t come off the skin easily, leaving you with the messy job of scraping off the left over wax. Once you have finished waxing do massage the body part with a lotion that contains rich moisturizers such as Shea butter or coconut oil. You could also choose a product that offers the healing qualities of aloe vera.

Laser hair removal in the winter season

Laser hair removal is a relatively permanent and effective way to get rid of body hair. Laser hair removal experts recommend that you have the procedure planned for the winter season. There are several reasons for this. Firstly you tend to expose your body to the sun very rarely in the winter season and hence the melanin produced by the body is less. Melanin is responsible for the color of the body hair and also causes tanning.

In laser hair removal, the lasers target the darker part of the skin, which is basically the hair follicle.  The laser energy is absorbed by it and it is destroyed. If the skin is clear of a tan the body hair stands out more visibly and hence, the laser hair removal therapy is more successful. The best combination is light skin with dark hair as the laser is able to target the hair follicles more effectively.
