Hair is composed primarily of proteins keratin. Keratin protein is comprised of polypeptide chains. Proteins are connected by peptide bonds and if this bond is broken down hair get damaged.

Preventing Damage:

Damage to the hair is usually caused by

  1. Heat (irons, blow drying, curlers, heat lamps, etc.),
  2. U.V. rays (Sun, lights, and tanning beds),
  3. Mechanical devices (combs, brushes, curling irons, etc.),
  4. Chemicals (color, perms, relaxers, pool chemicals, the air, etc),
  5. Poor diet (specifically -lack of proteins and essential fatty acids).

There are some protective ways which still can protect your hair from destroying. Like-

  1. Use a thermal protector when using heat. Heat is the main enemy of protein structure as it can melt down the peptide chain. So as the structure is broken hair get destroyed.
  2. Some people dry their hair completely after bath or washing their hair which affects the hair. So do not blow dry the hair completely dry whenever you wish to comb it. Leave a little moisture in, it; it helps the hair to remain soft.
  3. Use a conditioner which keeps the hair soft and silky.
  4. Coloring is always harmful for the hair. But if you wish then try to use a low or no ammonia hair color.
  5. Never brush wet or damp hair. Use a wide toothed comb. Combs are generally harsh.so when you use it can pull out your healthy hair.
  6. On dry hair use a boar’s hair brush.
  7. Clarify your hair after you swim as water of swimming pool has many kinds of chemicals.
  8. Eat protein rich foods (chicken, nuts) - Eat foods rich in essential fatty acids. They provide nutrition to your valuable hair.
