Oily skin care
Oily skin is often experienced in the teen years and in pregnancy, when the body is full of raging hormones. You may also have an oily skin as an adult. Irrespective of your age, the skin care required for such skin remains the same. The most important part of the oily skin care regime is the cleaning of the skin. It is essential for you to clean away all the excess oil or serum from the skin with a gentle cleanser. The oil also attracts dirt and grime that irritate the skin, block pores and cause skin eruptions.

  • Use a gentle oil based cleanser that helps remove the excess oil from the skin, without drying it out.
  • Avoid using soap, or a harsh cleanser that is alcohol based.
  • When washing your face, opt to use hot water as it helps remove the oil efficiently.
  • Exfoliate with an apt product that will help remove the oil, dirt and grime and leave the skin feeling fresh and clean
  • A clay mask will also help remove the excess oil, while providing a cooling affect to the skin.
  • Use an oil free moisturizer and makeup that suit your skin.
  • If your skin is sensitive choose to use an antiseptic cream recommended by your dermatologist before you begin applying makeup.
  • Try some natural techniques of reducing the serum in your skin. Apply a combination of cucumber and lemon juice on your face, allow it to dry and then wash off.
Diet
Oily skin is strongly affected by the kind of diet you eat. Try to avoid oily food and that which is too savory or sweet. Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, which offer your body vitamins and minerals. Pay special attention to foods such as grains, wheat germ, beans and nuts, which are rich in vitamin B2. A deficiency in this vitamin also causes oily skin. Do ensure that you eat plenty of proteins and have a good level of iron in the blood. Try to avoid aerated drinks and alcohol as they tend to dehydrate the skin. Instead drink plenty of water that will clear the body of toxins and keep the skin well hydrated.
