The skin is the largest organ in the human body. It is affected by the elements, nutrition the body receives, the care the skin receives and, most importantly, on the state of hormones in the body. The teenage years are crucial to the growth of the body. They are characterized by high levels of hormones that often cause oily skin, which breaks into pimples and zits. Teenage skin requires special care as it is the attention and care that the skin receives during these years that will determine its fate for years to come. Here are some tips on taking good care of teenage skin.

Cleansing
The most important thing to remember as a teenager is that your skin requires cleaning at regular intervals. It is a good idea to use a gentle face cleanser that is appropriate for your skin. Don’t use soap, as it tends to dry out the skin and is harsh on it. Wash your face at least twice or thrice in the day to remove the excess oil or sebum produced by the skin. This will also ensure that the pores remain unblocked and clean. Pimples, zits and blackhead are caused by blocked pores. Thus, by keeping your skin clean and the pores unblocked you bring down the chances of such eruptions.

Exfoliate your facial and body skin at least once a week. This helps get rid of dead and dry skin and helps the skin breathe. You could use a clay mask on your face once a week to offer a cooling affect to the skin and keep it feeling refreshed. Due the weather and sports activities that you may be involved in you may perspire more and will need to shower and keep your skin clean. Pay attention to your feet and ensure that they stay clean.

If you wear makeup then do learn the techniques to apply it well. Ensure that the brushes you use to apply makeup are clean. It is important that you properly remove all the makeup you are wearing before you go to bed.

Protection

It is never too early to start protecting your skin from the harsh rays of the sun. Choose a good sun block that suits your skin type and offers an SPF of 15 and above. When buying makeup, opt for well known brands even if it means that you are restricted to using only a few products. Cheaper beauty products can cause rashes and take a toll on your skin. Check the expiry date on makeup and ensure that it has at least six to eight months of shelf life.

Diet and exercise
Eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables to keep your body and your skin healthy. Drink at least eight to ten glasses of water to keep the body well hydrated and cleansed of toxins. It is a good idea to limit your consumption of oily food and food that is high in salt or sugar. Include a regular exercise routine to your schedule and learn to play a sport. This will keep your body fit and help it sweat. Opt to wear natural fabrics such as cotton that let your skin breathe easily.
