Shaving is one of the quickest and convenient ways of hair removal. Across cultures, people have for centuries, removed body and facial hair to keep their skin soft, smooth and clear. Shaving is a pretty simple and straight forward process, unlike techniques such as waxing or threading. It is important to use a clean razor designed for women.
Tips on having properly
- Before you are ready to begin shaving, make sure you have a stool or bench to sit on comfortably. This will ensure that your hand or foot does not slip, and result in injuries, nicks and cuts.
- Keep the products that you will require for hair removal handy. This would include a razor, shaving gel or cream that is suitable for your skin, bowl of warm water, towel, moisturizing lotion or oil.
- It is important to use a new razor as the blade will be sharp and clean, and will remove hair efficiently.
- Washing the skin with warm water helps prepare the area that is to be shaved. When the hair on your legs or arms is wet, it is softer and easier to remove. Use shaving gel instead of soap, as the latter tends to dry out the skin quickly. Opt for shaving gel that is created for women as it contains lubricants that make shaving easier.
- When you are shaving your legs begin at the ankle and then move upwards. Once you have applied the shaving cream, move the razor against the direction of the hair growth. This will help you remove more hair with a single stroke than you would if the stroke was in the direction of the hair growth.
- Razor burns occur when one shaves too close to the surface or with more pressure than necessary. In case you experience a razor burn then shave in the direction of the hair.
- Clean the razor in the bowl of water after every stroke. This will remove the hair and shaving cream that may be stuck around the blade, giving you a better shave.
- Once you have finished shaving, rinse your skin with warm water, and pat dry. Do not rub the towel roughly against your skin as it will be sensitive. Use organic oil such as olive or avocado, or a lotion that contains cocoa butter or aloe vera to massage the skin. This will keep the surface soft and well nourished.
- One can choose to use disposable razors that can be thrown away after use or a razor with changeable blades. It is important to throw away a razor when the blade has become blunt and dull. There are special products that have been designed to safely shave sensitive parts such as the bikini area.
