As the temperature rises it’s time to put away your woolies. Come summer, and you may find yourself dealing with a host of skin troubles. Depending on where you live, and the rise in temperature and humidity you may encounter different problems. As the hemlines rise you will want to ensure that your skin is well taken care of and protected.
Sun protection
You have heard it time and again, but one cannot overstress the importance of sun protection. Use a sunscreen with SPF 30 or more. Do ensure that you apply it generously at least 15-20 minutes before you go out. It would be best to choose a product that is smooth and fluid and doesn’t block the pores of your skin. Do ensure that you get a product that offers protection from both UVA and UVB rays. This will ensure that you avoid sunburns and premature ageing.
Of acne and rashes
Rashes and acne usually develop on skin that is not cleaned properly. It is important to ensure that your pores are not blocked by dead skin cells or by makeup residue. To this end, exfoliate your body and face once a week. Body wash that contains salicylic acid is especially effective with acne skin. After a few hours outdoors or after a workout, a quick shower can be quite refreshing and soothing. Acne and summer skin rashes are quite painful, and a light moisturizer that contains aloe vera will soothe the inflamed skin.
Dry brushing stimulates blood circulation and promotes good lymphatic functioning. A light organic cleanser is recommended to keep the skin clear of dirt, grime and excess oil. If your skin is very oily you may like to try a clay pack. Opt to use light oil free makeup and stay clear of products that will clog your skin.

Dry skin
Most of us spend a large portion of the day in air conditioning. Such an environment drains your body of moisture, and dehydrates it. This results in dry skin. This is also a sign that the body requires, and craves water. Increase your intake of water and reduce your consumption of caffeine and alcohol. If you swim in a pool or in the sea, you may like to use a lotion that will protect your skin against the chlorinated and saline water.
Keeping the hair off
Body hair tends to grow back faster in warmer climate than when it is cold. You may need to shave frequently to keep your skin free of hair. Razor burns are common when one is in a hurry. Avoid razor burns by getting rid of old and blunt razors. Use a clean and sharp razor, along with an appropriate shaving foam or gel. After your shave, apply a light moisturizer, to keep the skin softened and well nourished.
