Dry skin can not only make you look unappealing but can feel itchy and uncomfortable. It can also make you feel uncomfortable and less confident about your appearance. Dry skin is caused due to lack of moisture in the skin. Thus, it is important to keep the body hydrated, inside out. Dry skin can be caused by environmental conditions, bad nutrition and lifestyle choices. It may also be caused by an allergy or due to certain medications. There are several issues to keep in mind when you want get rid of dry skin.
Eat and drink well
It is important that you eat adequate fruit and vegetables, at least two to three servings of each, on a daily basis. This ensures that your body gets its daily requirement of vitamins and minerals that help in optimal functioning and maintenance of the body. You also need to drink at least eight glasses of water every day. This keeps your body hydrated and cleanses it of toxins. Remember that most of your body consists of water and it is essential to keep it well hydrated.
Skin care
It is important that you gently exfoliate your skin once a week so as to get rid of the dead dry skin. This is also helpful in clearing up clogged skin pores. A lukewarm water shower is preferred over a hot one, as the latter tends to dry up the skin. Also avoid sauna baths and soaking yourself in the bath for too long. Instead of soap opt for a body wash that is gentle and contains moisturizers that leave your skin soft and pampered.
Do apply a moisturizer that suits your skin; one with cocoa butter or aloe vera would be a good choice. You could also apply some olive oil while your body is still moist. Massage the oil into your skin before you dry yourself gently with a soft towel. Do wash your towels hygienically in order to avoid skin infections.
Avoid using the same razor to shave your hands and legs for more than a week or two. Also, after you have finished shaving, massage the skin with some olive oil or a moisturizer. Protect your skin from the elements, harsh sunlight, wind and hot or cold air. Cover your body as far as possible and use gloves, scarves and wraps in the cold weather. In the summers wear light clothing that covers your body well. Hats and sunglasses also help protect your face and neck. Remember to use a sun screen on body parts that are exposed; don’t forget to apply it on your hands and feet too.
Changes in lifestyle
Quit smoking or at least reduce it. Smoking dehydrates your body and your skin. Get enough sleep, at least six to seven hours every night. Start your day with a glass of water, followed by a fruit. A regular exercise routine keeps the body healthy and the skin glowing.
