You may want to consider eyebrow dye for several reasons. You may have dyed your hair to a color or shade other than its natural one, or you may have white eyebrow hair that you wish to color. It is important that you consider having your eyebrow dyed at a beauty salon until you are sure of the technique involved.
How to choose an eyebrow dye
- The most important thing to consider when dyeing your eyebrows is to opt for a color or dye created for the purpose, as opposed to using a hair dye.
- If you have dark hair, then opt for a dark eyebrow dye. Likewise people with light hair should try and choose a shade of eyebrow dye as close to their hair. In case you are unable to decide on the shade, opt for a lighter one rather than a darker shade. This way in case you get it wrong you can still darken the color.
- Ask your cosmetologist to recommend shades of eyebrow dye that will accentuate your eyes. Experts believe that darker tinted eyebrow dyes can make your eyes look darker.
- Only opt for eyebrow dye and not hair dye to color your eyebrows. Also do check the product for FDA approval and the date of manufacturing and expiry.
- When coloring your eyebrows do ensure that you avoid the surrounding skin area and take your time applying the color. Do read the instructions provided with the product. If you are using the eyebrow dye for the first time, do follow the safety precautions recommended by the manufacturer.
How to use eyebrow dye
Before you are ready to dye your eyebrows, do cleanse the area gently with lukewarm water and pat dry with a ball of cotton. On a cotton swab apply some petroleum jelly and gently apply on the skin surrounding the eyebrows. In case you have dry skin then you need to be especially carefully during this step, or you may find that any color spilt on to the skin is quickly absorbed. Make sure that you don’t get any of the petroleum jelly on your eyebrows or the color won’t set properly.
Mix the eyebrow dye as suggested in the instructions provided with the product and use disposable gloves to apply it. Apply the dye to the hair and try to get as close to the root as possible without touching the skin. You could try using a tooth pick to ensure you color each hair individually. Most people like to use an old mascara brush to apply the eyebrow dye. Leave the color on according to the time recommended by the manufacturer. Gently wipe clean and then rinse the eyebrows with water.
