Achilles Tendonitis
Cause
There are several factors; the most common cause is over-stress. Over-stress occurs in the walking process. Other factors are improper shoe selection, inadequate stretching prior to engaging in athletics, a short Achilles tendon, direct trauma (injury) to the tendon, and heel bone deformity.
Treatment and Prevention
Athletes should incorporate a stretching program to relax the muscles. They should decrease the distance of their walk or run, apply ice after the activity and avoid any uphill climbs even with the stairs. Athletes should use an orthotic tool, heel cup, or heel cradle for extra prop up.
In pregnancy:
Most common problem faced by the pregnant woman is the over-stress and edema. They indicate severe systemic disorder having the association with foot problem. There is effective ways to treat both over-stress and edema during pregnancy. Over-stress can be treated conservatively with "ready-made" orthotics and proper fitting footwear. It provides extra support and shock absorption.
Edema in the feet can be minimized by the following methods:
Elevate your feet as often as possible so that fluid accumulated there will be drained by the lymph nodes. Wear proper fitting footwear otherwise it will constrict circulation. If your feet measured several times throughout your pregnancy you will find them having different sizes. Put on seamless socks that do not constrict flow.
