The aim of makeup is to accentuate or highlight your best features and downplay flaws. The concealer is one of the most important makeup products at your disposal. It helps you conceal and cover flaws such as spots, blemishes, dark circles and pimples and leaves your skin looking smooth and even. It is important that you practice applying the concealer well or your skin may end up looking patchy. When you buy a concealer choose one that is close to the shade of your foundation.
Concealers can be in liquid or solid form; it is a good idea to have one of both. If you have a darker skin tone you would probably need a concealer for the summer months and one for the winter months.
Do buy makeup products of good quality and don’t skimp on products that will make you look great. If you are using a liquid or cream foundation you would need to apply it first, and then add the concealer where required, and blend it in. If you use a cream to powder foundation you will need to apply the concealer before you use the foundation. It’s a good idea to apply a moisturizer before you begin applying the concealer. This is especially important if the spot you are concealing is dry and flaky as the concealer will dry it out further.
Here are some great tips on applying a concealer:
- A solid concealer is preferred when covering smaller areas such as bruises, pimples and scars. For larger areas that you want to conceal such as dark circles and dry spots it is better to use a liquid concealer.
- To hide reddish spots use a concealer with a greenish tint. For dark circles opt for concealer with a yellowish tint. You can add eye shadow of the required color to tint your concealer. Do mix it well to get an even color.
- To apply the concealer use a concealer brush to put a dot on the required spot. Then with your finger or a flat brush gently blend it outwards into the surrounding skin or foundation. If required add more concealer and blend. The idea is to build up a natural look in layers. This technique also ensures that you don’t end up with excess concealer on your face.
- When concealing dark circles put dots on the area and gently blend in. Don’t forget to spread the concealer on to the inner corners of the eyes.
- Apply some loose powder with a soft and round brush to set the concealer in place.
- If required you can also apply concealer on uneven parts of your face to achieve clearer and smoother lines.
- Once you have applied the concealer, smile to see if it can be seen in the lines around your eyes or the mouth. If so, gently blot the area with a tissue.
